History of Toyota Harrier 2.0 G Petrol
The Toyota Harrier is a five-passenger compact that later became a midsize crossover SUV sold by Toyota since December 1997 in Japan and once exclusive to Toyopet Store Japanese dealerships. In export markets, the Harrier was rebadged as the Lexus RX from March 1998 to December 2008. It was named after the eastern marsh harrier, a bird preys common to Hokkaido, and northern Honshu called the Chuki in Japanese, and an emblem depicting the bird in stylized profile.
After being on sale for seven years, the fourth-generation Harrier was announced on April 13, 2020, and went on sale on June 17, 2020. It was also launched in Malaysia on April 8, 2021, and was offered in single 2.0 Luxury trim. Toyota went back to the larger K platform, which had now fallen under the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) family and known as the GA-K platform. Measuring 4,740 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,660 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,690 mm, the Toyota Harrier is every bit bigger than the current model. It’s a lot sportier, too, since the overall height was reduced by a staggering 30 mm.
The car’s overall profile appears to draw on the Toyota Harrier, and the characteristic blanked-off upper grille and slim headlights remain present. Its headlight feature dual-branched LED DRLs, and the lower grille is larger, matching the rest of Toyota’s model line-up. The rear area gets narrower D-pillars, full-width taillights, and a reverse-rake tailgate, creating a new look further enhanced by the 19-inch wheels. The Dynamic Force engine line-up is also available that starts with the 2.0-litre four-cylinder direct-injection engine. It makes a 171 PS at 6,000 rpm and 207 Nm at 4,800rpm and is mated to a Direct-Shift CVT. A 1,500-watt, 100 V (AC) accessory power outlet is available as a power generator in times of emergency and blackouts.
A Digital Inner Mirror, a first for Toyota, is available as a new addition to the premium pieces of equipment inside along with an electrochromatic powered sunroof, 12.3-inch wide touchscreen head unit that supports Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as a nine-speaker JBL sound system. Leather upholstery is standard, whereas cabin comfort is enhanced with acoustic windows and more extensive vibration-absorbing materials. In addition, the new Harrier gets the latest Toyota Safety Sense suite that includes a pre-collision safety system with nighttime pedestrian detection. There’s also an Intelligent Clearance Sonar with Parking Support Brakes and Active Cornering Assist, which helps reduce or prevent understeer in certain drives.
Since the production of Toyota Harrier, it was made primarily for Japanese markets but later extended to other Asian markets such as Malaysia, India and Singapore.
