History of Toyota Supra 2.0 Pro GR
The Toyota Supra has been part of the automotive lexicon for over 40 years. Its roots trace back to the original 1979 Toyota Celica Supra, the middle name a reference to its shared chassis with Toyota’s smaller Celica sports coupe. The two models eventually split in the 1980s, with the six-cylinder Supra sports coupe dropping the Celica name altogether. After evolving through four generations, Toyota’s mighty Supra sales declined in the late 1990s, and Toyota pulled the car from the U.S. market in 1998. Despite failing to show their love with their wallets, the Supra established itself as a legend, paving the way two decades later for a redux.
Seventeen years after production of the Supra ceased, the new fifth-generation Toyota GR Supra is in total production once again. Toyota unveiled the fifth generation of the Supra at the January 2019 North American International Auto Show. The car is a collaboration between Toyota and BMW and is based on the Z4. The Toyota Supra GR also won the Best Award and has even found a spot in the fleet of long term cars.
The GR in the Toyota Supra GR stands for “Gazoo Racing.” It’s one more of Toyota’s methods of using hardcore racing technology to produce better-engineered cars. The GR badge is meant to stand for the values, art, architecture, and endurance that make Toyota cars better.
It’s the brand’s most recent production sports car. It ranks in the middle of the competitive luxury sports car class. Coming with a mix of punchy acceleration, agile handling, and quick steering make it a blast to drive on curvy roads. The interior is stylish and well-trimmed, and the seats provide ample cushioning and space for occupants of all sizes. The Toyota Supra 2.0 Pro GR is also fairly practical by sports car standards. It has a roomy trunk, many safety features, a user-friendly infotainment system, and good fuel economy.
The base four-cylinder engine feels a lot brawnier than its 255-horsepower rating would suggest. It zips the Supra 2.0 GR up to speed swiftly, offers solid passing power on the highway, and responds quickly to throttle inputs. It’s nicely complemented by the Supra 2.0 GR’s eight-speed automatic transmission, which fires off quick, slick gear changes.
This fifth-generation Toyota Supra has been produced since March 2019 and went on sale in May 2019. The Toyota Supra 2.0 Pro GR went on sale in Japan on 17 May 2019. In the United States, sales began on 22 July 2019. In Australia, sales started on 2 September 2019. It is also available in Indonesia, Mexico, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Africa, Taiwan, and Thailand.
