History of Toyota Camry Ascent Hybrid (FL2021)
The Toyota Camry is an eight-generation midsize car that Toyota has produced. It was introduced at the North American Internal Auto Show in January 2017. On July 10, 2017, the Camry was launched in Japan and on November 21, 2017, in Australia. The North American production started in June 2017, while sales began in late July 2017. It was built on the GA-K platform.
A small portion of the initial North American production was sourced from the Tsutsumi plant in Japan due to the need to equip the Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky with new equipment. As a result, good fuel efficiency went hand in hand with a loss of interior space until the Toyota Camry Hybrid was introduced in 2006. The Camry Hybrid continues the Japanese carmaker’s legacy in rolling practicality, versatility, and great fuel economy into a single car. It is part of Toyota’s attempt to establish itself as the reigning hybrid powertrain champ.
It was offered in a single trim with a combination of a 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine and an electric motor when the Camry Hybrid was first introduced. However, along with a stronger 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, the hybrid now offers different trim levels such as LE and XLE as part of its eighth year on the market.
The Camry Hybrid is also offered with different engine choices. It includes a base 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder that now produces 203 hp in base form. The same 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with an electric motor produces 208 hp, or the top-of-the-line 3.5-litre V6 produces 301 hp. The old 2.5-litre 2AR-FE engine is carried over from the previous generation, which has 178 hp. A Toyota emblem is also shared with the previous generation located on the front grille and rear trunk lid.
It also received a lot of positive feedbacks from critics since its introduction. Some believe that the Toyota Camry Hybrid is a better choice for families looking to go green. It has excellent fuel economy, rates better than most compact cars, affordable, roomy and comfortable interior.
The Toyota Camry is seen as a luxury car where it sells strongly in the export markets of Asia and Latin America. It was also the best-selling passenger car from 1997 to 2020 except for 2001 in the United States. In its home market, the Toyota Camry Hybrid has surged its sales courtesy of the inclusion of Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system. Australia, Middle East, Eastern and Western Europe have also been part of the selling growth of the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
