First produced as a minivan by Toyota in 2002, Toyota Alphard became available as a seven- or eight-seater with both hybrid and petrol engine options. It was also advertised as a luxury van and is mainly produced for the Japanese market, however, it was eventually sold globally such as in Belarus, Bangladesh, Russia, Greater China, The Middle East, and Southeast Asia. 

For its second generation, the model was divided into Alphard and Vellfire model names individually. While the Alphard was intended to stand out for its elegance and luxury, the Vellfire was designed to be more sporty and modern. Both of these model names carry the same front and rear fascia, while its headlamps, tail lamps and grille design are different from one another. 

Named after the brightest star in the Hydra constellation, the Toyota Alphard is marketed as a chauffeur-driven luxury car and has lived up to its reputation since the first generation was introduced. The newly facelifted Toyota Alphard is part of the third generation of the Toyota brand and was known to be the best selling MPV in Japan. 

The third generation of the Toyota Alphard became available in Japan and specific Asian markets, including Singapore, Brunei, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines being the first markets to receive the all-new model. It was also recently that the new Alphard was also introduced in Russia and was the only European market to receive this luxurious car.
