History of Toyota Alphard 2.5G F-PKG Hybrid 7-Seater (FL2020)

The Toyota Alphard is a minivan produced by Toyota since 2002 and is available as a seven or eight-seater with petrol and hybrid engine options. Its name was derived from the Greek word “alpha” which is intended to evoke an image of the brightest star in a constellation. 

In July 2003, a hybrid variant made its debut as the second hybrid minivan after the Estima Hybrid. It uses Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive Technology with a Super CVT transmission and was manufactured in Inabe Plant at the Toyota Auto Body Co., Ltd.

After the debut of the first-generation Alphard Hybrid, there was no successor appeared for a while after its production ended in March 2008. However, in November 2011, a second-generation Alphard Hybrid was introduced as part of the model’s minor remodelling.

This second-generation hybrid variant has a sturdier look courtesy of the redesigned front grille, front bumper, rear garnish and reversing lamps along with added exterior colours to choose from such as a light metallic blue finish. The speedometer design, seat fabric, and woodgrain panel colours are some changes in the interior that enhance the sense of luxury and adopted eco plastics for part of the seat fabric and front floor carpet. 

It is also classified as a luxury car in Southeast Asian markets similar to that of Camry and the Japanese brand also produced a Welcab version of the hybrid model that offered a Side Lift-up Seat to facilitate ingress and egress. The full-size Alphard Hybrid MPV also qualified as an Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle that achieves 75 percent lower emissions than the Japanese government’s 2000 benchmark. 

The Alphard is primarily made for the Japanese market but is also sold in Bangladesh, Belarus, Russia, the Middle East, Greater China, and Southeast Asia.
