History of Mercedes-Benz GLE450 Sport 4MATIC Luxury

The Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is a mid-size SUV produced by German automaker Mercedes-Benz since 1997, originally the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. The size of the platform is between the smaller GLC-Class (based on the C-Class) and the larger, later shared GLS-Class. For the European market, the M-Class was also manufactured by Magna Steyr for a limited time between 1999 and 2002, before all production was moved to the US plant near Vance, Alabama. At the end of 2012, the M-Class was assembled in new plants in India and Indonesia.

Since April 2015, the M-Class has been renamed the GLE-Class. This name change makes it easier for customers to see where they fall in the Mercedes range, above the GLA and GLC SUVs and in relation to the Mercedes E-Class Saloon and Estate.

Mercedes is launching the fourth generation GLE with three trim levels: the GLE350, GLE450 and GLE580. Performance is the main difference between the new trim levels. The GLE 350 is equipped with a four-cylinder turbo engine with all-wheel drive, the GLE 450 ups its performance with a pounding 6-cylinder engine and standard all-wheel drive, and the GLE580 gets a powerful V8 engine.

The current GLE is part of Mercedes’ fourth generation of luxury SUVs, which roll off the production line in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It has a plush interior, seven seats and an impressive range of oil and diesel engines, as well as a plug-in hybrid alternative for those who like to go green.

The wheelbase is 117.9 inches and the cabin has been further lengthened. People in the second row have 2.7 inches more legroom and 1.3 inches more headroom.
