The new Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class Coupe is the perfect complement to its SUV sibling and like the latter, it offers drivers a premium crossover with a refreshed look and a whole lot more tech but with the added sexiness of a coupe.
From the outside, the updated GLC Coupe sports fluted inserts at the front while the lower bumper has three, small rectangular sections. The corner intakes are also more rectangular. LED headlights are standard on the GLC, and the lamps have a smaller, more angular shape. At the rear, the taillights feature rectangular lamps and the exhausts have a trapezoidal shape while the subtle rear spoiler which has been integrated into the bootlid. From the side, there’s no mistaking the SUV Coupe’s more sloping roofline and smaller windows towards the rear.
Inside, the key enhancement is the MBUX system that consists of a digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen in a wide bezel that spans the dashboard. It combines touchscreen multimedia displays, intelligent voice control via the talk button or the “Hey Mercedes” prompt and connectivity to bring the new GLC in line with the latest technological standards. Another new addition to the cabin: KEYLESS-GO start function using the cool, turbine-look start-stop button.
For the drivetrain, the new GLC Coupe is propelled by Mercedes-Benz’s latest M 264 2-litre 4-cylinder engine that offers improved output at much lower fuel consumption. Its main components are CAMTRONIC variable valve control, twin-scroll turbocharger and additional EQ Boost 48-volt mild hybrid system with belt-driven starter- generator. The system permits important hybrid functions such as energy recovery (up to 10 kW of energy), boost and “sailing” (with the engine switched off).
The GLC300 Coupe 4MATIC AMG Premium Plus has 258 hp and 370 Nm on tap and with the aid of EQ Boost and slick-shifting 9G-TRONIC PLUS transmission, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds. Top speed is 239 km/h.
Key equipment highlights are AMG parts such as body styling and floormats and Premium and Premium Plus Package components including 20-inch AMG alloy wheels in five twin-spoke design, AMG sports seats in leather, multibeam LED headlights, smartphone integration with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, running boards, panoramic glass sunroof, Memory package and Burmester surround sound system.
