WORLD PREMIERE: 2019 MERCEDES G350d FIRST LOOK, REVIEW & DETAILS!
History of Mercedes-Benz G350d AMG Line Premium
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, also known as the G-Wagen (short for Geländewagen, which translates to “terrain vehicle”), produced by Magna Steyr (formerly Steyr-Daimler-Puch) in Austria is a mid-size four-wheel-drive luxury SUV and sold by Mercedes-Benz. It was marketed under the Puch brand as Puch G in some markets.
Body-on-frame construction and boxy styling distinguish the G-Wagen. It is one of the few cars with these three fully locking differentials feature.
Despite the fact that the unibody SUV Mercedes-Benz G350d AMG Line Premium was introduced in 2006 as a replacement, the G-Class is still in production and is one of Daimler’s longest-running models, having been produced for 41 years. It is only surpassed by the Unimog.
On December 4, 2020, the 400,000th unit was produced and it made the G-Class has reached yet another milestone in its success and longevity. Three years ago, in 2017, the 300,000th unit was completed.
The Mercedes-Benz G350d AMG Line Premium was created as a military vehicle in response to a suggestion by Iran’s Shah to Mercedes and was offered as a civilian version in 1979. The Argentine Army, Ejército Argentino was the first military in the world to use it, starting in 1981 with the military model 461.
Throughout its 28-year model run, the first generation W463 had the widest range of engines ever fitted to a Mercedes-Benz vehicle: from natural aspiration to supercharger, from four to twelve cylinders, turbo, and twin-turbo. The W463 had the highest of 22 paint color options at the end of the first-generation model run.
The new G-Class has grown 121 millimetres in width and 53 millimetres in length over its predecessor. The ground clearance is now 6 millimetres higher. More driving stability, stronger side impact protection, and more seating comfort are all benefits of the increased width. The longer length is due to the new 2019 EU pedestrian impact safety regulations, particularly in the front end. The previous generation’s crumple zone did not have enough open space between the car’s front end and the rigid components beneath it to protect a pedestrian’s body.
The Mercedes-Benz G350d AMG Line Premium was introduced in September 2020 for the Chinese market to avoid the high taxes imposed on larger engine displacements. Since the 230 GE/G 230 was discontinued in 1995, the G 350 is the first G-Class with a four-cylinder inline engine. The largest markets for Mercedes-Benz G350d AMG Line Premium mainly were sold in black and silver colour in California, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, with Dubai mostly in white colour.
