The latest Mercedes-Benz C-Class Saloon (W205) is the first model to employ the all-new Modular Rear-wheel drive Architecture (MRA) platform which features the extensive use of aluminium throughout its body, resulting in a 100 kg weight decrease. First introduced in 2015, the C-Class Saloon underwent a facelift in 2018.
Upfront, the modified front end exudes dynamism and modernity with redesigned bumpers and LED high-performance headlights enhanced by gleaming chrome elements while the new steering wheel with Touch Control buttons and (depending on equipment line) fully digital instruments and larger displays take centre stage in the cabin. Wireless charging for all smartphones supporting the Qi standard, smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, fully digital instrument display with three styles – Classic, Progressive and Sporty, 10.25-inch media display with 1920 x 720 pixels that showcases brilliant images are just some of the other noteworthy new features.
The Mercedes-Benz C200 Saloon is powered by the all-new 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with the aid of EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology. On its own, the 4-cylinder, 16-valve engine delivers 184 bhp and 280 Nm. EQ Boost adds a useful 14 bhp whenever the 9G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearbox performs a kickdown with the 48V starter/alternator acting as an electric motor to boost performance. At full pelt, 0 to 100 km/h takes 7.7 seconds while maximum speed is 240 km/h. Amazing performance for an engine this small!
The Mercedes-Benz C200 Saloon AMG Luxury is equipped with exclusive AMG features such as exterior body parts, interior trim, 18-inch 5-spoke light alloy wheels, floor mats with AMG lettering and diamond grille as well as other goodies including black roof liner, sliding sunroof, open pore ash wood trim and the all-digital driver’s instrument display.
