What is a classic car?

A classic car is a car that is at least 35 years old from its original registration date, including in a foreign country, in order to be registered in Singapore under the Classic Vehicle Scheme.

All classic cars registered in Singapore by VINCAR are in roadworthy condition and have met the Road Traffic Rules.

Under the Classic Vehicle Scheme, you will have the opportunity to use your classic car for up to 45 days in a calendar year including weekends and public holidays. You must display a valid Day Licence each time you use it.

Upon registration, VINCAR will issue 28 free Day Licences and add additional 17 Day Licences.

Vintage or classic – what’s the difference?

Vintage cars are models built before 1940. Vintage cars can be imported for registration in Singapore under the Vintage Vehicle Schemes. Left-hand drive cars may be registered.

Classic cars, on the other hand, are those that were first registered at least 35 years ago and are still in great condition.

What are the models available?

Currently VINCAR is offering selected models like Porsche 911 and will bring additional models in the next months.

If your dream car is not on this list, simply let us know and we can assist to bring them in for you. Depending on its condition, our specialists will be able to advise you on the costs as well as its estimated arrival.

What is the assurance for car quality?

Unlike most modern cars that depreciate over time, the value of a classic car increases with time thanks to its rarity and exclusivity. Recently prices have surged at an exponential rate. The latest record was a whopping US$143 million at auction for an extremely rare1955 Mercedes SLR.

How often and how far is the car typically driven?

The car mileage varies according to the model. More important than the mileage would be the service history that would ensure previous owners were meticulous. Typically, a classic car will have high mileage clocked in the early years when it was new, then the usage would tend to reduce and be limited to weekends.

Can I test drive the car? Can I drive the car to a local shop for inspection?

For certain models and subject to vehicle availability, we may allow test drives. Please check with your relationship manager or contact us first.
The car may be brought on a trailer to the local shop for inspection at your own cost and under the supervision of our team.

What is the process of buying a car?

Similar process as any other cars. If you decide to buy a vehicle we already have in stock, we will register it for you. In case you want a specific car, we would be happy to source it for you. We will then make a selection based on your criteria, and purchase upon confirmation. Please allow us some lead time to bring the car over to Singapore and clear the necessary importation steps.

What are the advantages of buying classic cars?

Drivers and collectors of classic cars should be aware that they do not share the same performance and vibe as modern sports cars.

Despite that, there are still many reasons why you should consider buying classic cars. The most important of all is that they carry history to the present and stand out on the road amongst the modern MPVs and SUVs. Listening to the organic sound of the engine, reflects the quality of maintenance through the years, retaining its great character from the past.
